Friday....and a day off

This post is intended for Friday. On Monday I will be on holiday, so there won't be a post. So, be advised that both stops and new positions won't be updated until Tuesday. Unfortunately, I am the secretary as well as the founder of the BLOG, so when I take a vacation day, we all take vacation.

PORTFOLIO Symbol Entry Close Stop Profit Days
Long Gold GCM10 1195.00 1214.40 1202.80 1940 3
Long Gold GLD 117.16 118.69 117.56 1.3% 3
Long British BPM10 144.09 145.80 144.59 1068.75 3
Long British FXB 143.31 145.24 144.03 1.3% 3

As you can see, out positions gained ground today. We didn't gain as much as the stock markets, but neither were we exposed to the recent downward volatility.

One new signal: buy heating oil. Note that the ETF is very risky as it is very, very thinly traded. The symbols are HON10 and UHN. The record is 50 wins out of 62 trades for 81%.

Good luck to all!

Tuesday Night BLOG

My apologies for not checking in with you sooner. On Monday I was occupied with a matter of urgency that precluded me from corresponding with you.

First, there was a futures position that never got to the ETF stage, because it was stopped out overnight. This was the short NASDAQ. The results were as follows:

Closed Portfolio Symbol Entry Out Profit Days
Short NASDAQ NQM10 1821.25 1801.25 400 1

Secondly, there were two signals for today that I never documented because of a matter that needed my attention. Those two positions, buying Gold and buying the British Pound, are shown below:

PORTFOLIO Symbol Entry Close Stop Profit Days
Long Gold GCM10 1192.50 1198.00 1196.10 550 1
Long Gold GLD 117.16 117.36 117.17 0.2% 1
Long British BPM10 144.09 143.88 140.97 -131.25 1
Long British FXB 143.31 143.43 140.53 0.1% 1

I apologize for any inconvenience.

Finally, for tomorrow, we have a signal to buy Platinum. This metal's price has been "beaten up" pretty badly of late. The symbols are: PLN10 and PTM. The record for the system historically is 33 wins out of 56 trades for 59%. This is not a great record for one of my systems. However, this system has a very tight initial stop of only 1.5%. So, the system has either generated a very quick run-up, or a very short-term loss. There are no guarantees in this business of making predictions using statistics. As usual, the normal cavaets apply below.

A NEW SIGNAL

We were out of the market for most of the past week. It was a "bloodbath," to be sure. We made some money on a short copper position.

We have nothing in our portfolio right now.

There is one new signal for tomorrow: sell short the NASDAQ. The symbol is NQM10. I don't know of a short ETF for the NASDAQ; however, the symbol QQQQ can be shorted. If you have questions about this, write to me at the email address below. LOOK OUT BELOW! By the way, the system is 43 wins out of 49 trades for 88% historically.

Markets Plummet

Some stock markets dropped as much as 4% TODAY.

The Euro was up after a protracted decline. Also, the Japanese Yen rose.

This is one of those times when all markets are suffering, and our computer programs are neither long nor short.

There are no new signals for Friday, and there are no open positions.

Have a great day!

Last Night.....What A Night! Also Soros and Paulson

What a night it was! I received two signals: short Canadian and short Copper. This was Sunday evening. Both futures plummeted overnight. The Canadian was stopped out sometime around 11pm, and the Copper fell and fell, then rebounded and was stopped out in the early morning. I was happy. Then, after I was out, the bottom dropped out of Copper further. It was down about 10% at one point. So, the program "didn't get it all," but the overall timing was good.

Closed Portfolio Symbol Entry Out Profit Days
Short Copper HGN10 311.40 306.05 1337.50 1
Short Canadian CDM10 96.59 96.27 320 1

There are no new signals for tomorrow. Also, there are no open positions.

Something of interest for those of you who love Gold. Another source today stated that the two largest holders of GLD, an ETF for gold, are George Soros (one of the greatest hedge fund managers) and John Paulson (the money manager who made money shorting mortgages). Food for thought, isn't it? I hope I get an over-sold signal on gold soon.

Thus, at the moment there are no ETF positions.

Wednesday Morning and Evening

Morning: Heating Oil futures were stopped out overnight with profit. Both the Russell and Platinum are up and trailing stops have locked profits; details tonight.

Evening: There isn't time to do a complete update tonight; however, the Platinum was just stopped out for a gain. The Russell soared today, so our computer-system timing was "right on the money." For tomorrow, buy the Canadian Dollar, the British Pound, and Silver.

The usual statistics will be published in the morning.

New Signals for the Gutsy

No one wants to try and catch a falling safe; however, the two new signals attempt to do just that. Buy the Russell: TFM10 and IWM, and buy Heating Oil: HOM10 and UHN. The records are as follows: 49 wins out of 61 trades for 80% for Heating Oil. Note, we will not follow UHN officially, because of its lack of volume. For the Russell 2000 the record is 53 wins out of 77 trades for 69%. Note that this Russell system was responsible for one of our biggest gains this past year.

The two existing positions are shown below, and one more closed position as well.

All Positions Out

On Friday the Short S&P and Short New Zealand Dollar were stopped out. As you may know by now, the computer stops that my programs generate are calculated continuously as the data change during the day. Friday's stock market action was quite climatic. The market fell so far that my trailing stops were triggered intra-day. Then the markets proceeded to rally strongly and consequently exit the positions. Usually this type of phenonmenon doesn't occur intra-day, but when it does this is a shortcoming of this BLOG, since I don't usually update it intra-day. So, I apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

The three new positions were all stopped out overnight, with 2 gainers and 1 loser.

For Monday we have 5 new signals. However, because of contagion risk we will only track three for the BLOG. Buy Aussie, British, Euro, Swiss and Platinum. We'll track Aussie, Swiss and Platinum. The Swiss system has the best historical record of the European currency signals. The Swiss is 26/27=96% historically. The symbols are FXF and SFM10. The Platinum record is 29/33=88% and the symbols are PLN10 and PGM. Finally, the Aussie has a record of 58/64=90% and the symbols are ADM10 and FXA.

BLOG for Thursday

Today our longest running programmed position was stopped out with a massive profit: Platinum. Silver was also stopped out with a loss as shown below:

Closed Portfolio 1 Symbol Entry Out Profit Days
Long Silver SIN10 18.69 17.74 -4750.00 3
Long Silver SLV 18.41 17.51 -4.9% 3
Long Platinum PLJ10 1534.90 1653.70 5540.00 70

Our best open position is the short S&P, which has been short for 17 days now.

Short Zealand NE1M10 71.70 73.03 71.53 $170 8

We have three new signals for tomorrow: short silver, short gold and short crude oil. Given the recent run ups in these commodities, the signals would indicate that they are over-bought. On the other hand, going short could be like trying to stop a "freight train." For crude oil, the system generated 28 wins out of 29 trades for 97%. The symbol is CLM10 and short OIL. For Gold the record was 24 wins out of 26 trades for 92%. The symbols are GCM10 and short GLD. Finally, for silver the record was 19 wins out of 25 trades for 76%. The symbols are SIN10 and SLV. Note that the ETFs mentioned this time are long ETFs, so to accomplish what the programs say you would need to go "short" the ETFs. This is can be done.

BLOG for Tuesday

Good evening. I am getting to the BLOG very, very late for me. It is nearly midnight Pacific Time.

Thanks to all of you for your support. Although I don't know who you are, the BLOG has been read in South America, Europe, and Asia.

There are no new signals for tomorrow.

Today was not good for most of our positions. Our short the S&P; however, was right on the money. Many positions were stopped out today: some for net profits, but some for losses. It is a constant challenge to try and predict the financial markets, and this is the very reason I wrote my programs. Computer programs tend to take the emotions out of "market watching."

Listed below is the Portfolio:

PORTFOLIO #1 Symbol Entry Stop Close Profit Days
Long Platinum PLJ10 1534.90 1653.70 1685.80 $7,545 69

Silver Posts Largest Gain in Fairly Quiet Markets

The biggest ETF gainer today was SLV, up .88%. The Crude Oil futures contract was stopped out with a gain, but the ETF wasn't, so one strategy would be to exit upon the open tomorrow. That's what we'll use in posting the BLOG results.

We Begin May!

It is hard to believe, but one third of the year is gone! We will release our results in the next day or two.

Two new signals for today: buy Silver and buy Sugar (that's a new one, isn't it?). It takes a particularly gutsy person to buy Sugar at this time. Look at the chart below!

Nonetheless, here are the statistics for the Sugar system: 39 wins out of 50 trades for 78%. For Silver the statistics are: 24 wins out of 24 trades for 100%. However, this has a particularly deep stop of 5%, so be careful! Sugar symbols are SBN10 and SBB. Silver symbols are SIN10 and SLV.
