Only one new signal for tomorrow: buy Silver. The record is 90 wins out of 105 trades for a win-ratio of 86%. This has never happened in the BLOG's history so far. For long ETF silver, we have a very winning open position. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but I'll most likely show a new futures position as well as an addition SLV position. This will be for the benefit of those who wish to follow either system. For the BLOG returns, we'll use the ETF position we are already in for SLV.
Not clear? Let me know and I'll try to clarify. We've finished August with some fairly decent results.

Overall, Friday was not a good day for the BLOG; but we will stick with the averages over the long term. Note that we exited soymeal with a profit over a long number of days, we made a very small gain on the Russells future, and lost money over a short time on Silver. Long term, I believe that there is quite a bit to be made on the metals.

There are new signals tonight. Buy the Aussie Dollar yet again. Same symbols and signal as before, so if the ETF was entered, it is still long!
Buy Copper again. Same symbols as before. This system, with a shallow initial stop, has 104 wins out of 178 trades for 58%. Again, if the ETF was entered, it is still long.
Now for the Biggie. Remember our buy and sell signals for the Russell 2000 this year? They have been pretty good--knock on wood! The same system is giving a buy signal for tonight on the future, and tomorrow on the ETF. No guarantees here! And remember, I am communicating these signals with no charge. "You get what you pay for!" In any event, here are the parameters of this algorithmic approach to investing. Symbols: TFU10 and IWM. The system has 71 wins out of 77 trades for 92%. These are great numbers; however, let's no jinx ourselves..........
See you tomorrow!

CLOSED OUT SYMBOL ENTRY OUT PROFIT DAYS
Long Coffee KCZ10 180.50 181.05 $206 1
There was no entry into the ETF, because coffee was stopped out overnight.
PORTFOLIO SYMBOL ENTRY CLOSE STOP PROFIT DAYS
Long Soymeal SMZ10 267.50 299.80 284.10 $3,230 50
Long Gold GCZ10 1216.50 1226.5 1220.1 $1,000 2

Long Aussie ADU10 89.44 90.23 89.71 790 1
Long Aussie FXA 90.47 90.68 90.16 0.2% 1
The Aussie gained nicely, as did soymeal and corn.
For tomorrow, we have few signals; just as we predicted, calm cometh before the storm.
SIGNALS:
Two more signals to buy the Aussie Dollar; these were very reliable signals but we will ignore them since we are already long the Aussie. These signals simply serve as positive reinforcement.
Two signals to buy the Canadian Dollar. We will follow one, of course. The symbols are CDU10 and FXC. The track record is 37 wins out of 37 trades for 100%. This record is based upon historical data and algorithmic rules.
Two signals to buy the Euro Dollar, but we won't be following them for two reasons. First, because of the record of the Canadian Dollar system, and second because we don't want to be over-weighted in the foreign currencies.
A signal to buy Silver: symbols SIU10 and SLV. A track record of 55 wins out of 73 trades for 75%.
A signal to buy copper: symbols HGU10 and JJC. A track record of 108 wins out of 139 trades for 75%. However, is warrented here because this is a system that could easily be stopped out overnight.
Good luck to all! Good night!

CLOSED OUT SYMBOL ENTRY OUT PROFIT DAYS
Short Crude Oil CLU10 75.75 75.46 $290 1
Short Crude Oil OIL 22.04 21.88 0.7% 4
And our current portfolio is as follows:

Long Soymeal SMZ10 267.50 296.70 283.50 $2,920 49
Long Gold GCZ10 1216.50 1226.9 1219.7 $1,040 1

Short Euro FXE 22.57 22.57 ? 0.0% 1
Long Corn CZ10 425.00 422.75 390 -$113 1
So we had a "Golden Day," as it were. Note that we must exit the Euro on the ETF open tomorrow; we have already exited it on the open of the future overnight.
For tomorrow, buy the Aussie Dollar: symbols ADU10 and FXA. The record is 32 wins out of 38 trades for 84%.
Another signal: buy coffee: symbols KCZ10 and JO. The record is a mere 9 wins out of 10 trades, with very tight stops. Check the BLOG in the morning if you decide to monitor this signal, because it could be short-lived overnight. The coffee futures open at 11:30 pm Pacific Time.
Best of luck!

.....And the Boards Light Up!!!!!!!

Before delve into specifics, I thought it might be instructive to look at what has happened to the grain ETF. The graph above speaks for itself.
Our ETF portfolio currently consists of nothing, since our Crude Oil system for the futures was stopped out today. The ETFs will exit on Monday, and we'll document the profits then.
Our futures only portfolio is:
PORTFOLIO SYMBOL ENTRY CLOSE STOP PROFIT DAYS
Long Soymeal SMZ10 267.50 296.70 283.50 $2,920 46
However, we recieved a total of 6 new signals this afternoon after the markets closed and the data settled. Some of these 6 signals are redundant, and some of the 6 do not have an exact, corresponding ETF. However, I'll list them all here to give you a flavor for the kind of "voice" that the computer gave to today's activity.
Buy Gold
Buy Soymeal
Buy Corn
Buy Soybeans
Sell Short the Euro Currency
The grains have already been on quite a run, so the new signals are a bit surprising.
For Gold, the symbols are GCZ10 and GLD. The two systems have records of 27 wins out of 27 trades for 100% and the other 25 wins out of 27 trades. We will track the 100% system here in the BLOG.
For soymeal there is only a future, with symbol SMZ as shown above. We are already long soymeal, so this signal will not affect the BLOG. However, it is a reinforcing signal since the record is 16 wins out of 17 trades, for 94%!
For Corn, the symbols are CZ10 and CORN. We will not follow this ETF signal in the BLOG, however, because the initial stop is over 8% for the position. With one fifth of the ETF portfolio invested, this would be too great of risk for this BLOG at 1.6%. This violates our BLOG principles, so we will ignore this signal for the ETF. For the futures, we will probably follow it since the dollars involved are not that huge.
For Soybeans, there is no pure ETF, only the grains in general. The symbol is SZ10, and the track record is 33 wins out of 51 trades for a mere 64%. This win-ratio is almost too low for the BLOG; however the initial stop is shallow at 1.6%.
Lastly, the symbols for the Euro are ECU10 and FXE. FXE is long so one would have to short that. There is also EUO that is already double-short. The track record is 20 wins out of 29 trades for 69%. I like the signal because it plays well against the gold. Normally, gold and the Euro are positively correlated, thus, going long one and short the other is a hedge.
This is a lot to swallow, I know, but remember the old saying "the quiet before the storm." This is a "storm" of signals after a relatively quiet week for the BLOG. As always, send questions to bassanalytics@live.com, or feel free to comment directly to the BLOG.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Dan

A New Signal (corrected)
Our current portfolio:
PORTFOLIO SYMBOL ENTRY CLOSE STOP PROFIT
Long Soymeal SMZ10 267.50 296.40 283.50 $2,890
The soymeal is a futures position, and there are currently no ETFs.
One new signal for tomorrow: sell short Crude Oil. The symbols are CLU10 and OIL. Yes, there is an ETF that is long crude; this signal is to short that ETF. To repeat, this is a computer generated signal based upon historical data with mathematical rules that determine the entry and exit points. It seems to this writer that Crude Oil is already over-sold, but that is only my intuition. The record is 19 wins out of 22 trades for 86%. The entry point on the futures overnight was 75.69 and the stop is 77.56.
Good luck to all!

The Markets are Wild Today, and the BLOG is Calm
Yesterday, we hypothesized that our long Russell 2000 position would be stopped out, and today it was stopped out with a nice profit. In fact, the Russell and other stock indices plummeted. The foreign currencies, metals, and energy complex also fell sharply, with the exception of the yellow metal: gold. Treasury bonds rose. My interpretation: with a still doubtful world economy, there was a "flight to quality." The U.S. Dollar, Gold, and U.S. Treasury Bonds have often been safe havens in times of economic trouble. Note that the U.S. Dollar is being chosen over other currencies in spite of our growing National Debt. So, investors are implicitly saying that many other countries may be in worse trouble. However, the purpose of our BLOG is to follow computer generated signals, not invest based upon our speculative knowledge. So, back to topic.
Our ETF portfolio has shrunk to nothing. Not a bad place to be today, was it? Zero is better than grossly negative. We'll save our capital for a good opportunity.

Conundrum Resolved
Yesterday we commented that it was a possible conflict in directions that the New Zealand Dollar would go up, while the Canadian would go down. Today, most major currencies went down, with the US Dollar rallying. Following the currencies down were the stock market indices, the metals, and the energy complex. Our long New Zealand Dollar was taken out, and our Canadian made an intra-day profit and exited. If you went short the ETF, you would exit in the morning.
CLOSED OUT SYMBOL ENTRY OUT PROFIT DAYS

Long Zealand NE1U10 73.23 71.78 -$1,450 6
Long Zealand BNZ 22.98 22.76 -1.0% 6
The ETF value for FXC will be updated in the statistics for the BLOG tomorrow.
The active portfolio has shrunken dramatically. This usually means lots of new signals in the near future.

Long Russell IWM 62.18 64.62 63.21 3.9% 20
We could easily see the Russell getting stopped out tomorrow, if today's weakness continues. As I write this at 5:30 pm Pacific Time, the stock markets have fallen another half percent.
We'll look carefully for some new signals tomorrow.

Tuesday's New Signal Presents Conundrum
First, we present our current portfolio:
PORTFOLIO SYMBOL ENTRY CLOSE STOP PROFIT DAYS
Long Soymeal SMZ10 267.50 294.50 283.50 $2,700 42
Long Russell TFU10 611.30 658.10 631.50 $4,680 19
Long Russell IWM 62.18 65.86 63.20 5.9% 19
Long Zealand NE1U10 73.23 72.66 71.78 -$570 5
Long Zealand BNZ 22.98 23.04 22.76 0.3% 5
Obviously, our grain signal came far ahead of the news, which over the last several weeks was quite bullish. Also, our Russell signal came in the middle of "doom and gloom." The computer-generated signals that are the most difficult to accept based on current events, often turn out to be the best performers.
One closed out signal:
CLOSED OUT SYMBOL ENTRY OUT PROFIT DAYS
Long Gold GCZ10 1197.40 1204.8 $740 4
Long Gold GLD 117.99 117.58 -0.3% 4
Note the anomalous result that does not occur often: the future for gold made money whereas the ETF did not. This came about as a result of timing: the futures market opened right at 3 pm Pacific Time whereas the ETF opened at 6:30 am Pacific Time the next day. Sometimes this will happen in the short-term, but signals that persist tend to converge the longer they stay in effect.
Today's signals present an interesting dilema. First, sell short the Canadian Dollar. The symbols are CDU10 and FXC. The track record is 13 wins out of 13 trades for 100% historically. However, this short Canadian position seems to contradict our current long New Zealand Dollar. The CD entered at 97.29 and the stop is 99.19.
Good luck to all!

Hi Ho Silver!
We have lots to cover tonight. First, we had a great day on the silver futures. The ETF didn't perform the same, because of proverbial timing differences. We have covered this before; over time, the futures and ETF performances converge.
Another milestone was acheived! We received a signal to exit the British Pound tonight. This does not mean that the BP will decline; it simply means that the computer-generated long position has been optimized. We will exit with profits of 4.2% over a period of 15 calendar days.
Cocoa was stopped out with a small gain; natural gas with a fairly hefty loss. Overall, our futures made money on the day. Note the large gain in the long Russell 2000 position.
Lots of data to follow and lots of action. All in all, we can live with complication so long as it makes money for us.
For tomorrow, buy Gold! Symbols GCZ10 and GLD. Track record is 66 wins out of 78 trades for 85%. Stop: 1162.30 on the future.
I will try to give the first day's stop whenever I can.
